The enabling works allowed aggregate industries to install a new 800m suspended conveyor. The addition of the cable suspended conveyor at the Quarry site facilitated a huge quarry expansion.

Our Team overcame numerous difficult challenges on this exciting project. We engineered effective solutions to allow our customer to meet their project timeline with a cost-effective approach, to the highest safety standards in a very harsh environment.

Project Challenges

  • Restricted access
  • Slope gradient approx. 33 degrees
  • Quarry remained operational throughout the project
  • Extremely tough rock
  • Winter weather conditions
  • Very tough terrain

Service Details

Our team included our highly skilled Menzi Operators and 360 excavator operatives, 2 off Menzi M545, 1 off Menzi M540. The Menzis were tethered to a restraint excavator to allow them to work safely on the steep gradients. A secondary restraint system was in place should the 1st anchor system fail. Rock saws and hydraulic breakers were used throughout this project. The compact but powerful Epiroc MB1200 rock-breakers were utilised. In addition we obtained the support of an industry leading IRATA rope access company for the duration of the project. The project involved 4 months of earthworks spread over a period of a year. Due to the clients operational constraints of the Quarry, at times our team were required to work 24/7.

During this time we safely excavated 3500m3 of hard rock from the top benches of an existing quarry on both ends of the new suspended conveyor location. The slope was 33 degrees and the quarry remained operational throughout. All works aligned to Quarry legislation and regulations. Additionally, we support our clients with slope stability assessments prior to commencing any site works. These assessments are carried out by a professional, experienced engineering team.
